  • Swelling or tenderness around the gums.
  • Darkening of the tooth.
  • Presence of an abscess or infection.

  • Saves your natural tooth.
  • Restores normal chewing and biting.
  • Prevents further infection or complications.

What Is the Painless Root Canal Procedure?

Painless root canal treatment is now achievable thanks to advanced dental techniques. The process begins with local anesthesia to completely numb the infected tooth and surrounding tissues, ensuring a pain-free experience. A rubber dam is placed over the affected area to keep it clean and isolated.

A small hole is drilled into the tooth to access the pulp chamber, where the infected or dead tissue is carefully removed using specialized tools. Since the tissue is already dead or dying, and the area is numb, patients experience no pain during this process. Once the canals are thoroughly cleaned, they are disinfected with antibacterial and antiseptic solutions to eliminate bacteria and prevent reinfection.

The cleaned canals are shaped and then filled with a rubber-like material called gutta-percha, sealed in place with an adhesive cement. This step ensures that the canals are completely sealed to prevent further infection. A temporary or permanent filling is then used to close the access hole. In some cases, a post may be placed inside the canal for additional support.

Following the procedure, the tooth will need a permanent restoration, such as a crown or filling, to protect it from fractures and restore its structure. Patients may experience mild discomfort afterward, which can be managed with prescribed medications and proper care.

This advanced, pain-free approach not only relieves tooth pain but also helps preserve your natural tooth for years to come.

FAQ

Root Canal Treatment - FAQs

A root canal is a dental procedure that removes infected or damaged pulp inside a tooth, cleans and seals the root canals, and restores the tooth’s function.

Modern root canal treatments are virtually pain-free, thanks to advanced techniques and local anesthesia. Patients often feel relief from the pain caused by the infection after the procedure.

Typically, a root canal can be completed in 1-2 appointments, each lasting 60-90 minutes, depending on the complexity of the case.

Delaying treatment can lead to worsening pain, spread of infection, abscess formation, and ultimately, tooth loss.

With a crown or filling placed after the treatment, the tooth will look and function like your natural teeth.
